Starting Out
I am a young guy recently out of school. While in college I stayed active and managed to stay in pretty good shape. A lackluster diet and a fair amount of drinking didn’t have much effect when working out regularly. Getting out into the real world and getting a desk job has led to a lot of inactivity and my poor diet has had its impact. I’ve gained a little weight, added a couple inches, and more importantly I don’t have the energy I used to have. So, a few pounds later I decided it was time to get healthy.
After a week or so researching which diet I wanted to try, i.e. procrastinating, I decided on a version of the Paleolithic diet. Also known as the caveman diet, it is based on the presumed diets of humans during the Paleolithic period. Centered on meat, fruit, veggies, roots, and nuts, the diet offers more freedom in terms of how much you eat. One of the things that turned me off to a lot of the diets I looked at was the precise measuring of what you were eating. As much as I’d love counting every single calorie I much prefer enjoying my food.
The particular version of the Paleolithic diet I chose is the Caveman Power Diet as described on http://www.cavemanpower.com. This plan is broken up into three stages. The first stage has you snacking lightly throughout the day on fruits and unsalted nuts and eating one large meal at night, eating what you want and as much as you want. Stage two takes things to another level with eating nothing during the day and one healthy meal at night. During stage three you nurture any cravings for healthy foods you have during the day and at night you feast. A large glass of water is to be gulped down first thing in the morning of each stage and plenty of water is to be consumed during the day.
Some goals of the Caveman Power Diet are to induce detox, burn fat, introduce you to healthy foods and get you to actually crave them. My decision to go with the Paleolithic diet was easy for several reasons: the foods involved are all ones I enjoy, there’s plenty of freedom as far as when and what you eat, and the diet promises more energy. The weight loss should be the easy part, but I’m most concerned with increasing my energy during the day. I will be starting the diet tomorrow and will be keeping a diary of my progress.
